Help us support our students & families during this time of great need.
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc worldwide!
It has relentlessly left its mark on nearly every aspect of society – from individuals, families, schools, hospitals, and businesses to government institutions and the global economy – nothing has escaped its unremitting path!
As we collectively come to terms with this pandemic’s onslaught, Hewalenamo continues to steadfastly educate and empower girls who live in the most vulnerable and under-resourced communities in Ghana. We continue to do whatever we can to ensure that they will one day take control of their own destiny and play an important role in the transformation of their communities.
We have adjusted our programs in accordance with the mandates issued by the Ghanaian government to combat the spread of the virus. However, the community we serve has been especially hit hard. Even before COVID-19, many of our families already lived a ‘hand to mouth’ existence.
COVID-19 has brought additional hardship to a nation where 40% of the population is under the age of 15; where only 17.1% of households have access to the internet; and where 25% of the population live on less than 1 dollar a day.
This translates to 2.4 million people in Ghana living in abject poverty.
Many of our students depend on our daily school lunch program because it’s the only meal of their day. Because of school closures, they are not receiving this meal. They come from homes where their parents are unable to work due to the lockdown, and social distancing is nearly impossible because their homes are small; their homes are occupied by several family members; and they have no running water and electricity.
We have already distributed food and basic essentials to over 100 students and their families, but there are many more who still need our support and food prices have skyrocketed.
The Hewalenamo team is working hard to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on our girls, their families and our teaching team. However, it is becoming more difficult each day. Although we don't normally make emergency appeals, we are currently facing a daunting financial hardship!
Your generosity will provide the following for a family of four:
* Gari (ground cassava)
* Spaghetti noodles
* Canned sardines
* Canned tomatoes
* Yams, onions, peppers & other vegetables
* Veronica bucket, soap & hand sanitizer
An investment in children is an investment in a better future for all! Here is our need – and only you can help!
Imagine -- If we had 100 donors who give just $40 or more, we would be able to provide food and basic necessities to more than 400 children and their families!
Please help us by donating and sharing this campaign with your family, friends, associates and social media network!
