Our fundraiser for Corona Kits was successful. Because of your generosity, the MdC team bought the kits consisting of anti-bacterial wipes, cold and flu medicine for kids, Clorox and more- and distributed them.
However, novel COVID-19 is on the rise in SLRC. The government is taking stricter measures due to the 14% mortality rate. Everyone is required to stay home, and only one person is permitted to travel per car for essential travel. There is a risk of being arrested for any other activities taking place outside of the home. Because the population lives paycheck-to-paycheck, many are now out of work and soon to be unable to feed their families. There are no government-sponsored programs to feed families, and people are relying on caring hearts and generosity. The need for food is just starting, and we are trying our best to get ahead of it before things get worse.
Because of this, on May 4th, MdC is launching a 3-month program where will deliver groceries to families in need. They will be purchased at local markets to support local businesses and have them pack the goods. Our team will pick the food items and drop them off without contact to their recipient.
Initially, we will be starting with 20 families and will grow the program as funds permit.
We will also be distributing flyers on COVID-19 protection and will distribute masks as needed.
