Homeless dogs need our help to survive.
We are BEACH DOG RESCUE OF COSTA MAYA MEXICO. A small rescue struggling to keep stray dogs alive during this crisis. The situation here before covid-19 was desperate. With businesses now closed and the economy shut down, the situation for street dogs is beyond dire. Dogs who could once rely on food scraps from strangers, are now left completely alone. As people struggle to feed their human families, feeding a stray dog is no longer possible for most. Dogs are quite literally starving.
As this pandemic continues, calls requesting our help are increasing. Independent rescuers from several towns, whom we have supported for years, are alerting us to the horrors they are seeing in their neighborhoods. People are dumping boxes of puppies in vacant lots. Machete attacks on dogs are increasing (when dogs get hungry, they beg for food. Sometimes they get attacked for it). Skinny dogs are found dehydrated and hungry in the hot sun.
I know this is hard to read. It is even harder to see, but we know that looking away will not change anything.
Our rescue model has changed in the months since covid-19 has shut down life here. Currently there are no spay/neuter campaigns and adoptions have stopped. We have always provided vet care to strays, but the current volume of dogs needing help is more than we can afford. We will never say no to helping if we can.
Our rescue is at capacity, so we have begun boarding dogs in doggy day care facilities.
We are asking for donations to supply dog food to street dogs and to help cover the cost of emergency vet care. Rescues by nature struggle to meet the demands of dogs who need help; however, this situation is something we have never seen before.
Please help us to save them.
GoFundMe is giving grants of $1,000 (on a first come, first served basis) once a charity raises $1,000 in donations.
We are an IRS registered 501(c)(3) non-profit in the US.
