As you leave OpenX, we will miss your leadership, your great mind, and your sense of humor. But what we will miss the most is the person you are and the friend you have become to so many of us. We are all thrilled that you have found a great new company with a clear social purpose and we know how much you contribute to the world around you outside of work. Most notably your deep involvement with the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue team.
A few great memories from from your search and rescue adventures over the years:
The times when you would show John a text that someone was lost in our local mountains, slide quietly out of a meeting and show us the video the next morning of the person you had found being helicoptered out to safety.
The time they paired you up with a rookie who did not know your other passion is running ultramarathons and was insistent he could keep pace with you up the side of a large mountain. It was not a good night for him.
We remember the story of the father and daughter that were lost overnight and how you and the team went in late and found them by early morning. The recounting of their happiness at your arrival was amazing, and the story of Mom chewing out the Dad when you brought them back to base camp was hilarious.
In summary, we will all keep your cell phone number in case we decide to go hiking in the San Gabriels!
This GoFundMe page is not just a thank you and farewell from us, it's also a welcome from the team at GoFundMe. They learned about our idea and wanted to share in the creation and support of the page as they are excited about your arrival. We want to thank them as well.
For sixty-nine years, the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team has provided aid to those who have become lost, overdue, or injured in the wilderness. Our service is possible due to our dedicated team of highly trained mountaineers and your financial and moral support. There is never a charge for our services, nor do we receive any tax dollars or other government support. All of our funding comes from the generous donations of people like you.
