The Far Rockaway Making Strides Breast Cancer walk came about from a conversation between two friends. The question was asked: why do we keep going to Jones Beach to do the walk and not have a walk right here in Far Rockaway? As the space was there and a few people were on board with the idea, the American Cancer Society was contacted and planning for the first walk in 2017 began.
The goal for the Making Strides walk in Far Rockaway was to bring people together to make a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. We wanted from the opening ceremony to the post-walk entertainment, to be a celebration of survivors and an opportunity to remember loved-ones lost, while raising awareness and funds to save the lives from breast cancer.
With this goal in mind, we set out to host the FIRST Far Rockaway Making Strides Breast Cancer walk. With about 200 participants geared up and eager to walk, we completed a 1 mile walk along the Far Rockaway Boardwalk (from Beach 17th street-Beach 59th Street and back) and was able to raised a little over $2000.
The FIRST walk was a success and we promise It's a day that shouldn't be missed and won't be forgotten!!!
