I have been an avid gardener since I was assigned to a small farming village in Mali during my Peace Corps service. Figuring out how to compost, manage drought, and grow vegetables and sunflowers helped me manage my mental health in a remote village. Here at TALMAR, I get to watch people achieve goals, find solace, and develop relationships-- all with their hands in the soil or fingers entwined in flower stems and vegetable stalks.
I plan on making an Instagram-worthy picnic, but it'll most likely be messy but delicious. I'm asking my friends to support TALMAR and this picnic so TALMAR can continue to support its community members by providing therapeutic horticulture programs remotely (or on the road this fall)! I'm promising recipes and pictures as I navigate the CSA vegetables and our many cookbooks!
