The Illinois Spina Bifida Association serves more than 900 families throughout Illinois. Any donation you make will go 50% directly to families living with spina bifida and 50% to help pay for outreach staff and social workers to help families find long-term services, medical care, and supports for an improved quality of life.
Spina bifida is a lifelong neurological condition that affects the spine and is usually apparent at birth. Spina bifida can cause physical and developmental disabilities that range from mild to severe. Spina bifida is a complex condition that, for many, requires specialized medical care and daily attention to health and wellness. The severity of spina bifida varies based on lesion level, and can cause impaired motor functioning, loss of sensation in the lower limbs, bladder and bowel incontinence, hydrocephalus, and learning disabilities.
