My brother, David M. Wagner, passed away on December 27, 2011 after a short, but hard fought battle with cancer. At the time of his death, David was a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department. He worked at FDNY Engine 3, Ladder 12, Battalion 7, in Chelsea. David was particularly proud and honored to be one of New York’s bravest. He loved everything about his job and all of his brothers at the FDNY.
More importantly, David was a loving husband, father, son, brother, cousin, nephew, and to my kids especially, a favorite uncle.
David was also a talented and accomplished athlete. He completed the Detroit Marathon two times, the NYC Marathon four times, the Boston Marathon two times, an Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, as well as numerous Ironman Half-Triathlons. Shortly before his diagnosis, in November 2010, he completed the Ironman World Championship Half-Triathlon in Florida.
We are humbled that the T2T Foundation has chosen to honor David this year at the Berkley 5K on October 6, 2019. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate David's fun nature, and love of competing. I hope you'll join us in celebrating him on this special day.
