When I came to Samaritans seven years ago as a hotline volunteer I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, what I didn't expect was how Samaritans would make such a difference in my own life.
My work at Samaritans has taught me that suicide prevention is not about other people, it's about all of us. Samaritans taught me that in order to help, you must be humble, set your ego aside and you must be present. I learned that you don't solve other people's problems, its hard enough to deal with your own. You don't save another person's life, you help them through a moment, this moment, now.
With 1-in-5 Americans experiencing depression each year, most of us know someone who struggles with mental health-related problems, yet very few of us make charitable donations to support suicide prevention services.
So please contribute to my efforts—as well as countless Samaritans friends and volunteers—in support of this wonderful organization that helps people during their most difficult times. Every donation is 100% tax-deductible.
All donations go directly to providing much needed-services:
$100 pays for 10 calls to Samaritans 24-hour crisis hotline.
$500 funds a school suicide awareness presentation for NYC school students, teachers and parents.
$1,000 covers all of the related costs tied to a Samaritans Safe Place survivor of suicide loss support group meeting.
$5,000 funds a Suicide Prevention Professional Development Training Conference for 150-200 NYC school counselors & health providers.
Thank you for your support! <3
