Family and Friends,
For the fourth year in a row, I will be a member of the Alzheimer's Association's "Run to End Alzheimer's disease" team in the Falmouth Road Race. Proceeds raised go directly to improve the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's and promote research and effective treatments.
As many of you know, I and my family lost our beloved mother, Evelyn Slavit, in December of 2015. She was such a beautiful, caring, warm, wonderful woman. She suffered from Alzheimer's disease that erased so many beautiful memories that she worked so hard to build over her 91 years. She raised nine children, was a loving wife to our father, William Slavit, and cared for anyone who was in need. This not only included her many children, but many grandchildren, animals, and the less fortunate. When it came our turn to care for her we felt so helpless. How do you attempt to build happiness and contentment in your mother's golden years when she was plagued by constant confusion and worry? Now that she has passed I feel more empowered to help other Alzheimer's patients or deter future patients by raising the needed money to defeat this disease in her name. By participating in this event for the fourth time, I've committed to raising awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association®.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk and we must come together to change the course of this disease. Please support my efforts by making a donation. All funds raised benefit the Alzheimer's Association and its work to enhance care and support programs and advance research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer’s disease!
