The play area has not been updated since inception, 2009. The only change has been the installation of a large sandbox 2 years ago. Our program has been mostly indoors, with a small amount of outdoor play time when weather permits. We aim to change that. Over the summer 2020 we will be acquiring new natural play area equipment and creating outdoor classroom spaces to maximize outdoor time. Many studies link an increase in time spent in nature with improved academic performance, as well as improved social and emotional outcomes. We want healthier, happier children who have the opportunity to learn about nature in nature.
Fairview Eagle's Nest Preschool is in Oscoda County, Michigan. We are 1 of only 3 preschools in our county, and the only 1 that is not income based (Head Start or GSRP). Our goal is to help our students get the developmental kick-start needed to help them overcome the challenges of poverty, unemployment/underemployment, and low wages so rampant in our community.
UPDATE: Due to shut-downs and delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, our play area revitalization will be occurring over summer 2021, not summer 2020.
