1925 Sawmill Installation Project.
The Cumberland Farmer’s Club is asking our friends, neighbors, and supporters to help with an improvement project that had been planned for 2020. Sadly, as announced, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we will not be holding our 2020 Cumberland Fair. In addition, all major ground rental events that had been scheduled between April and October of 2020 have also been cancelled. Without these vital means of fundraising, the Cumberland Farmer’s Club no longer can anticipate being able to complete this project (or others!) as planned without the help of generous supporters from the community. We have many members who are willing to volunteer their time and expertise to the labor involved in this endeavor, however, we must secure funding in order to be able to move forward.
The fully operational 1925 Chase gas-powered sawmill has already been generously donated to the Cumberland Farmer’s Club by the Harmon Family from Standish, Maine.
Our planned project is to:
1. Pour a cement foundation
2. Move the Sawmill to the Cumberland Fairgrounds in the Museum Area
3. Install the Sawmill onto the Foundation
4. Build a fully enclosed building to house the Sawmill. Once completed, the Cumberland Farmer’s Club will have a fully operational antique sawmill.
This unique exhibit will not only be displayed during the Fair and other times, Cumberland Farmer’s Club will be able to demonstrate the end-to-end process to the public. We will be able to use the product produced in other projects to improve the Fairgrounds as well!
How you can help: Every dollar donated matters. Please donate to help us accomplish this amazing improvement. Without your support, we will not be able to complete this installation for at least two years, which would mean that this donated and valuable antique sawmill will sit idle, and we run the risk of needing repairs – which would mean needing even more funding. This project continues our mission statement to promote Agriculture and Agricultural Education in the State of Maine. The Cumberland Farmer’s Club is a 501C-3 nonprofit charitable organization, and your donation may qualify for tax considerations. Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your contribution.
Please donate to help us accomplish this mission!
