FABSCRAP is a non-profit rethinking textile waste. We operate as both a service and a resource, proving it is possible to conveniently divert valuable materials from landfill and provide the creative community with a new opportunity for more sustainable sourcing... one bag of fabric at a time.
We had some big goals in 2018:
- provide service to 250 brands in NYC, check
- save 200,000 pounds of fabric from landfill, check
- move to a new warehouse, check
- hire a new team member, check
- share our unique data set, check
We're so humbled by the support we’ve received from brands, volunteers, and makers. More so than any individual effort or idea, I truly believe the growth and success of FABSCRAP speaks to the insidious scale of the textile waste problem. Sooooo...
We have more planned for 2019, and that's why we need your help. Next year we're focusing on two big opportunities:
1. opening a retail location
We just want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to create more sustainably. With an accessible storefront near the garment district, in which every gorgeous piece has been saved from landfill, we can make a stylish case for choosing to reuse instead of buy new and introduce a new audience to waste reduction!
2. expanding service to LA
We know West Coast businesses need help recycling their fabric waste too! It may take some time to begin operations there, but we're traveling back and forth quite a bit to get things moving.
