As we’ve seen in the past months, the COVID-19 epidemic has brought our world to a halt. We read this quote from Mr. Rogers recently:
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” ― Fred Rogers
So we asked ourselves, “How can we be the helpers?” Today, several health professionals in the field told us that they are in desperate need of masks and are willing and happy to use reusable fabric face masks so that disposable masks can be saved for patients with COVID-19. In order to act quickly, we enlisted our artisan units to make as many fabric masks as possible to deploy to the most needed areas.
EllieFunDay empowers over 60 women artisans with a fair-wage and dignified employment. When this epidemic hit, our orders dropped drastically. This both impacted us as a company and took away much needed income from the women we work with. Making masks both helps healthcare professionals and provides urgent support to our artisans.
Our sewing team can make 1000 face masks every 4 days. We know that these masks can’t replace N95 masks, but can be a first line of defense for other less critical needs, freeing up the essential masks for treatment of COVID-19 patients.
We are now leaning on our supporters and building an army of “helpers”. EllieFunDay’s non-profit organization, Handcrafted for Life will take donations to help support the distribution of these masks.
We are aiming for a goal of $10,000 which equates to 5000 masks. Please share this with your friends and family! Together we can #spreadlove!
