8 years ago, Julie and I (along with our two other sisters) lost our father. The loss left, and still does, a big gap in our lives. That gap won’t ever be replaced, but what we have found is that with the right balance of people, experiences and places, we can feel more whole again. And for Julie and I, volunteering at Experience Camps has been a big part of that journey, and has filled us up to almost the very brim.
No one likes to talk about the “tough stuff.” We get it. But the truth of it is, surfacing and working through the “tough stuff” is what will make our society more productive, increase the happiness of the people who live in it, and improve our health. Everyone should feel that it’s okay to talk about these things, and have a safe place and community to do it in. ESPECIALLY our younger generations, who are about to enter some of the most impressionable years of their lives.
Experience Camps provides exactly that. @Experience Camps are FREE, one-week camps for boys and girls, ages 9-16, who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. It's a place where all kids can feel normal and nobody has to feel alone, because everyone there understands what it's like to lose someone important.
In the spirit of the holiday season, please consider helping us bring the magic of camp to a grieving child (even if it’s just $10!). $1,000 sends a kid to camp. We’d love to send FIVE kids to camp with your help, so we are setting a goal of $5,000!
For any kid who experienced a loss this past year, and is going through a tough holiday season, this will guaranteed be the very best gift they get. And YOU can make it happen!
Thank you & lots of love,
Nicole & Julie
