Dear Friends and Family,
As you know, five years ago my Dad died after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle. This loss was sudden and tragic, and happened the day before I started Graduate School. Grief is never easy, and the circumstances surrounding my Dad's death were particularly challenging. I was 22 at the time, and I can't imagine what that experience would be like for a child or teenager. It's hard, devastating, confusing, and at times isolating when you feel like no one "gets it".
Last summer, I had the honor to volunteer my clinical skills and participate in Experience Camp, a one-week camp for children whose parent, sibling or primary caregiver has died. At camp, everyone "gets it" and it provides a nourishing environment for grieving kids to express their feelings and also experience the joy of being a kid while doing regular camp things.
The camps are 100% free to all who attend and we are expanding rapidly to meet the growing demand. We started with 27 campers in 2009, had 580 campers last summer, and expect over 700 next summer. Last summer, we had over 80 campers on a wait list. I'm asking for your support to ensure that we never have to turn away another grieving child who needs our help.
It literally takes two minutes to donate, so you can do it now and change a grieving child’s life - please follow this link:
- $5,000 invests in a camper's growth over 5 years at camp
- $1,000 sends a kid to camp for a week
- $500 gives a group of kids a trip to the ice cream shop
- $100 pays for supplies for a memory ceremony on the last night of camp
**Anything that you can give is deeply appreciated.**
Thank you for caring about these kids and for recognizing the impact this program has on them and on me.
