What a long, strange trip it's been....
It started in 2017, when I decided to do something different and challenging before my 70th birthday, and raise some money for my favorite charity along the way. That journey led to the Chicago Marathon, and that's quite a story, for another day....
Thiteen months later, it was the famous NYC Marathon, my hometown, so how could I resist? Between the two campaigns I raised over $150,000 for The Samfund, thanks to some pretty wonderful friends and family.
Then I needed a rest. So I took 2019 off, and as the months went by it appeared as if my marathon days were mercifully over. But then, thanks to the wonderful people at Expect Miracles, the change to run the most iconic race in the word, the Boston Marathon came my way. Anyone who knows me knows there's NOTHING I won't do for Samantha and her charity, so here we go again.
This time around I've got a great coach, and I've been tackling the hills of Central Park on wintry mornings, and I've run during some pretty hot and humid Florida afternoons, because they tell me that when Patriots Day comes (April 20) you never know WHAT to expect.
I've got a little less than 100 days to go, and I will be ready for Heartbreak Hill and whateve else comes my way that day. In the meantime, I'll keep all of you updated as to my training progress, and I'll keep asking for money for The Samfund right up until Race Day.
Jeff. Jack, Mandy. Kim. Peyton Jason. Stacey.
I'll tell you their stories in the weeks to come. I'll tell you why i wear Michael Strahan's uniform number on my chest for inspiration. And I'll keep nagging you for a donation, so you might as well do it now.
Any amount, no matter how big or small, will make such a difference in the lives of some amazing young men and women. Especially when the money I raise gets matched once again, just as it was the first two years.
Please give.....and please share on your own social media pages.
