I care about moms. I care so much that I have dedicated my life to creating and supporting moms, like me, through my work as an obstetrician/gynecologist.
Maternal mortality, or the number of moms who die during pregnancy or within a year of giving birth, is RISING in the United States. More women die in the US from pregnancy-related complications than in any other developed country. It doesn't seem possible, but it's true. And it is shameful.
For that reason, I am riding RAGBRAI, Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, to raise awareness and funds to combat this epidemic that deeply affects our families and communities.
I encourage you to ride along with me, in the saddle or in spirit, and help me help our moms, so that 500 more families next year will remain intact because we cared enough to save Mom.
