Every disabled child deserves a wheelchair. Unfortunately, not every child has the opportunity to receive one. My late sister had a severe case of Cerebral Palsy. I have seen firsthand the struggles and difficulties associated with not been able to get around. Hence I have devoted my time to facilitating support and resources for this vulnerable group. Disabled children are isolated from social aspects of their communities, while their parents face hardship. Most mothers have to carry disabled children on their backs with cloth to support their daily activities, while enduring stigmatization. These mothers experience poverty because they are unable to participate in socio-economic activities to help better their lives. Over the years, I have realized that some children never see the sunshine; they never get out due to mobility issues. Some have never attended school just because they are differently-abled. Not every parent can lift these children as they grow. I envision how each disabled child’s quality of life could improve if they had a wheelchair, giving them more freedom and independence.
Disability Resources Foundation is a nonprofit organization that caters to the social needs of children with developmental disabilities. The foundation has successfully acquired 30 wheelchairs for the children in the program and seeks your help in shipping them to Zambia. Help us change a child’s life by donating towards the shipping costs of the wheelchairs from the USA to Lusaka, Zambia. When this goal is met, we will endevour to acquire more wheelchairs and reach as many children as we can.
The foundation believes that in addition to meeting the vulnerable children’s nutritional health, mobility is a huge factor in helping these children and families attain independence.
I can assure you that the children, their families, and the foundation appreciate your act of kindness. Your gift will go a long way in easing the hardships of raising a child with a developmental disability.
