First, we hope that you and your loved ones are staying healthy and managing the stresses of the Covid-19 pandemic. What an extraordinary and unprecedented time it is, and we send thoughts of healing and support to you.
Evergreen is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization on the Eastern shore of Maryland that has been a beautiful sanctuary of health, healing and personal growth since 1993. In a serene natural environment, we offer classes in yoga, meditation, and more, as well as services for mind, body, and spirit such as massage, naturopathy, psychotherapy, acupuncture, and Reiki.
As with so many organizations in this country, Evergreen will be faced with major financial strain over the coming months. Because we have had to shutter our services, including all classes and any health services requiring human touch which constitute about 90% of our services, our income stream has essentially disappeared.
This puts us in a precarious situation, as we now have virtually no income, yet our expenses remain. These expenses include utilities as well as staff salaries which are needed more than ever to do the work of keeping Evergreen solvent. We do not have a mortgage, thankfully, but the other expenses continue to accrue.
Additionally, our planned fundraiser for 2020 has also been cancelled. We want to be prepared for the worst-case scenario in that regard, which would be that social distancing guidelines will prohibit events like this moving forward in the near and possibly more distant future.
Given these extraordinary circumstances, we are writing to ask for your support in keeping Evergreen solvent. You may or may not have taken part in our classes or made use of the services of our many practitioners. If you have, we trust that you may have benefited and become at least a little healthier, if not transformed!
Given the prospect that it may take a very long time before we are able to offer classes and our holistic services again, we are appealing to you, if you are able, to support us with a donation.
We understand that donations for overhead are rarely the etiquette in fundraising, but these extraordinary circumstances are leading us, as are so many organizations large and small, to take extraordinary steps to ensure our solvency.
We will be applying for state and local grants, but we have no idea if we will receive approval for them or how long it will take if we are approved.
So we are now asking you to support us with a donation of any size on a monthly basis for the next nine months. Of course a one-time donation would also be greatly appreciated.
We understand that some of you may be struggling with the loss or reduction of income and know that it may be a difficult time for you. We also understand that some of you are able to continue working or have retirement income that is steady and secure.
For those who are able, we respectfully ask for your support during this crisis, and hope that you are able to participate either with a one-time donation or a monthly donation for the next nine months or other time frame. You will be able to choose the time frame.
We also ask that you forward this request to as many people you know, regardless of where they live in the country, who is in a position to support us with financial assistance. If each recipient of this letter forwards it to twenty people, we will have achieved an exponential growth in our potential to meet our goals.
We are grateful for donations of any size. We thank you in advance for your generosity of spirit in supporting this beautiful organization to thrive in the future.
Whatever your circumstances, we wish you the courage and resilience to navigate these stressful times. Thank you.
