This pandemic has made the work of survivor-led community transformation much more difficult.
Our leaders were hit the hardest by COVID-19. Many are part-time or freelance workers, who already struggled to make ends meet. As caregivers for children, elders, and sick family members without affordable healthcare or an economic safety net, they struggled to safeguard the health and economic survival of entire communities.
And yet, generosity, fierceness, and self-determination abounds.
Leaders have been virtually meeting with decision-makers and building deep alliances with youth, other caregivers, and educators to achieve victories for our first grassroots campaign, SexEd Works. We also have had the privilege of welcoming 16 new survivor-leaders through our leadership program, Healing Generations, who will use their tools and skills to transform the root causes of gender-based violence in their communities.
There is so much more to celebrate than there is space here to share. We look forward to sharing more with you all and celebrating this amazing work that is possible because of you.
