In March 2017, I lost my Uncle Eugene to cancer. His wife lost her partner and high school sweetheart. His three children lost their dad. His grandchildren lost their Grandpa. Our entire family lost his loving, funny, kind presence. In the last few years, it's felt too much like dominoes, my friends and loved ones losing their parents, or siblings, or children to the ravages of cancer, one after another.
As I train to run the Eugene Marathon in Oregon on April 29, 2018, I will be holding my uncle's memory in my heart, and all those other loved ones - those I know and those I don't - who were taken too soon, or who are still dealing with the disease. Each of us has been touched by cancer in one way or another, and it's time that changed. Please help me to raise money to fund research to combat cancer. Every little bit helps!
