In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Ukraine is currently in quarantine due to COVID-19. To help some of the most vulnerable, we are purchasing and delivering essential supplies to families of children with special needs in Ukraine.
Sasha is a survivor.
6 years ago he was born without a heartbeat. Doctors frantically worked to revive him. For 2 weeks he was in a coma and on a ventilator. He survived. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
Not long after he was born, fighting broke out in his region which borders Russia.
Bullets, tanks, terror and bombings were daily occurrences for Sasha and his mother.
Fearing for the life of her child, she packed him up and fled. Leaving behind family, their home and belongings. They lived in a hospital in Kyiv for several months as they had nowhere else to go.
Sasha cuurently needs diapers and medicines. Can you help?
