If you know me, you know that there are two things that I really enjoy: Art and Running. Let’s talk about running first.
In 9 days, I’ll be running my first ever marathon - the NYC Marathon. Go big or go home, I guess! I’ve spent the past six months sweating it out five days a week and it has been, to say the least, a journey. That stuff they say about “it's about the journey, not the destination” - it’s cliched but true. I’ve made and strengthened so many friendships along the way, from running with the New York Road Runners in Central Park - many of whom are also training up for their first marathons! - to relaxed runs with old roommates, best friends, and new coworkers. But just as important have been my long, lonely double-digit mile weekend runs - rain or shine. I get time to think and feel everything that’s going on and explore some new areas of New Jersey and New York (and even Austin, TX).
On the morning of Sunday, Nov 3rd, I’ll only be 26.2 from the end of that journey.
As I’m winding down this journey, I’m also starting another really exciting one. As a number of you know, I recently joined the board of a fantastic nonprofit in Jersey City - Art House Productions. A home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas, Art House engages, inspires, entertains, and challenges audiences with ambitious visual and performing arts programs and arts education programs that promote life-long learning to the diverse Jersey City community and beyond. I personally love how committed Art House is to support and featuring the voices of new playwrights, actors, choreographers, dancers, and visual artists, acting as a springboard for careers in the arts. It truly exists at the center of a thriving arts community, and one that I have grown to love in my five years in Jersey City. Art House is on a journey of its own, and gearing up for a lot of exciting developments in the next few years, which will take our theater and visual arts programs to a new location and honestly, the next level.
So, here’s the ask! Please support me and Art House in our journeys together. You can do that in three ways.
DONATE! Whether it’s $100 or $1, I sincerely appreciate your support. If you have the capacity to give, it would mean the world to me and the great artists, performers, and staff at Art House and the students and community they support.
CHEER! Let me know if you’re watching the marathon and let me know where you’ll be! I’m making a map of everyone along the way and will stop for a stinky, sweaty hug.
DJ! Whether or not you can give or cheer, I still need a running playlist. I’ll take your pump up jams, your headbangers, your pre-gaming hits. Whatever your personal “Eye of the Tiger” is, I want it on my running playlist. Send me a line and I’ll add it in!
Thanks again to all of you for supporting me over the years. I’m not sure what comes after that next 26.2, but I know for sure it’s gonna be good.
