Erika was diagnosed in 2015 (at 35 years old) with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, one year after losing her husband in a tragic motorcycle accident.
Working in public health since 2003, Erika has been highly involved in cancer screening initiatives in Southeast Michigan as a core member of the Colorectal Awareness Network (CRAN), which is a coalition comprised of health systems and agencies. In addition to her innovative approaches to screening, she works as an advocate for survivors and caregivers and speaks at events, highlighting her story and giving newly diagnosed women first-hand perspective of life as a widow, single working mom and cancer thriver. She enjoys spending time outdoors with son, Caleb. Together they enjoy gardening, hiking, exploring local beaches, parks or watering holes.
