Having grown up in the Tahoe National Forest, the alpine lakes, dusty basins and granite of the Sierra Nevada Range hold a special place in my heart. The Tahoe Rim Trail has always been this alluring pull for me, and I am at a point in my life where I want to start pushing myself to plan longer, more physically-challenging adventures. Over the past 4 months I've used trail running as a way to explore my current home area in the Southern San Juan's of Colorado and the more mountains I climb and trails I run, the longer and faster I want to go. Partaking in human-powered movement to be immersed in wild places is how I like to experience my environment, moving fast and light to fully experience the land and cover large distances. This is what sparked my interest in fastpacking- to combine running with backpacking for a multi-day immersion in wilderness. It is in these times that I find clarity, raw confidence, and inspiration for both my art and environmental advocacy. As a society, we have all been challenged mentally and emotionally over the past 6 months-- this has prompted me to create a physical challenge that integrates a level of mental fortitude and strength, to find purpose in all the craziness we are experiencing. This is one of my favorite things about running, it forces me to push past physical and mental barriers and just keep moving forward. So, I decided that moving for 20+ miles a day, 8 days in a row, in the mountains was the perfect goal. I wanted a larger motivation than my own love for physical and mental tests to catalyze this adventure. Creating a fundraiser for the Cairn Project is exactly that; I want to use my platform as an athlete, outdoor educator, and artists to empower women and girls to believe in their strength, and experience connection in and with natural places, inspiring an ethic of care for one another and the environment.
All donations to this fundraiser support The Cairn Project's grants to girls-only outdoor education programs around the country.
The Cairn Project uses the 501c3 status of its fiscal sponsor, Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs, to operate its charitable program. Your tax deductible donation receipt will reflect a donation to SEE.
