For the last several years members of the East Providence Police Department have participated in "No Shave November" to raise funds for local charities. For 2019, we have collectively decided to fundraise for Impact Melanoma, formally the Melanoma Foundation of New England. This year's campaign is particular special to the members of our department as we recently lost one of our own brother officers after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Detective Corporal Jose Taveira had over 20 years of dedicated service to the East Providence Police Department and the community.
Detective Taveira began his career in 1999 in the Patrol Division before he became a school resource officer at Martin Middle School in 2009, where he not only ensured the safety of all students and teachers, but he also became a mentor and confidant to countless students. In 2010, he was promoted to Detective Corporal where he worked tirelessly investigating financial crimes while advocating for each individual victim and their families. Detective Taveira's sincere and positive attitude was instrumental in forging close relationships with the community as well as with various departments throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Detective Taveira was well respected by many, not only for his accomplishments within the department and his contributions to the community; but more importantly, for his generosity, his love of cars, and his genuine friendship.
