As many of you know, my mother has lived with epilepsy for most of her life. Luckily, her seizures are controlled with the use of medication which has allowed her to live a fulfilling life that includes being an active and loving mother and grandmother. It is through research and support of foundations such as the EFMNY that my mother is able to live the productive life she does.
I have also seen how devastating this condition can be through our dear friends' son Tommy Vasile, who suffered from severe seizures as well as other neurological complications.
On January 31, 2014 Tommy tragically passed away just months before his second birthday. His life, while short, had a profound impact on everyone who had the privilege to know him. Tommy was an unbelievable fighter, who demonstrated superhero strength in every battle he fought, every day. For this reason, Tommy is lovingly remembered as Superman to his family and friends who miss him so very much.
I am proud to be running the NYC Half Marathon on Team EFMNY for the 6th straight year in honor of my mom and in memory of Thomas 'Superman' Vasile III. They are both superheroes and inspirations, to me.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York is an official charity partner of the 2020 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon!
When you support Team EFMNY, you are helping us raise epilepsy awareness and further our Into The Light programs, which are free of charge, open to all and serve to empower individuals and families affected by epilepsy and seizure disorder. These programs let others know they are not alone, and assist those navigating through life with epilepsy by providing information on access to treatments, resources and a supportive community.
The NYC Half provides you with an opportunity to transform lives in a direct and meaningful way. By supporting the runners of Team EFMNY, you can truly make every mile count
