University Avenue Discovery Center is a state licensed, City of Madison accredited, and NAEYC accredited program which has been serving preschool and school-age students for over 50 years. During this trying time, UADC has prided itself on adjusting to the needs of children and their families and guaranteeing the quality care and education that has UADC has always been known to provide.
As we pivot our programming and extend our care offerings for school-age students in order to provide expert assistance with virtual learning provided by state licensed teachers, we need to expand our array of materials to better meet the learning needs of school-age students. We will need materials that are typically present in early elementary classrooms, such as math and literacy manipulatives to bring academic concepts to life. Gross-motor materials such as blocks will be critical in building spatial reasoning capabilities and mathematical thinking. Small materials such as beads or other manipulatives help children to further increase fine motor skills which is important to their developing grasp on various writing utensils. Further, as an arts-based center, we would be remiss not to emphasize the needs for additional artistic supplies which may be used during literacy or writing instruction as they create their first narrative books.
In a time of so much unknown and unfamiliar, please help us make these classrooms as filled with materials to explore and utilize as possible.
