I’m reaching out for help and I hope you would be willing to find it in your heart to help me and others in support of a very important cause, Ending Domestic Violence. This is very personal for me and I’m putting this out in a public forum so that others can also find their way to manage, assist in eliminating the pain, and confronting their own personal experiences with Domestic Violence, past or present.
What many of those who “know me” don’t know is that I experienced a very serious & deadly Domestic Violence situation in my teenage years, that had a very deep impact on my life. So much so, that I buried a lot of that experience within, thinking that “I was all good” or “I will be alright”. I guess to some degree, I have been alright to get to where I’m at today, however I found that deep down I never reconciled the impact of that situation and how it affected me in my relationships, my choices in life, and how I could do & be more of a help to others who may have experienced the same.
As a child, experiencing and seeing Domestic Violence brought about guilt, fear, confusion, and embarrassment. At that age, there is a life-long impact. So at the age of 42, I’ve decided to do something about it and give support to those who are or have been in similar positions as I was at 14yrs old.
In most cases with things, I’m very much singular in focus and getting things done “on my own”. But I’m taking a huge leap in asking for help, as I start my own personal journey to reconciliation of that life experience to let go of that pain. I can't do it alone.
I’ve recently reached out to the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WSCADV) and will begin doing some volunteer work among other things. This journey starts with their RefuseToAbuse 5K run at Safeco Field on July 21st, 2018.
With that, my goal is to raise $5,000 in support of WSCADV and to participate in the upcoming 5k walk/run. In raising funds for WSCADV, I will match whatever I raise up to $5,000. This donation will help WSCADV continue the good work that they are doing to combat Domestic Violence and bring awareness to such a devastating issue.
So if you are so inclined to join me on July 21st or would like to make a donation, I would be very grateful for your support.
