Children with special needs are 2.9 times more likely to be victims of sexual abuse than children without disabilities. Children with intellectual disabilities are the most vulnerable to be sexually abused, at 4.6 times the risk than children without disabilities. (*According to the 2018 statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO))
Voices of Change 2018 is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide navigation and advocacy services to survivors of sexual abuse with disabilities and their families, unlike any other service agency. It was founded by Nicole Moehring and her daughter, Maci. The passion and drive behind starting this organization, came after both Maci and her brother Evan, who is autistic, were both victims of abuse. Our goal is to ADVOCATE, EDUCATE and EMPOWER the community as well as the child and their families to report abuse if suspected.
Our purpose is to decrease the number of cases of abuse on special needs children, and increase awareness. Nicole has fought for both her children to get justice and she wants to help other parents and families to find the right resources to be able to get justice served for their child as well.
We are raising money to cover operating expenses, such as purchasing Office 365 Migration, essential software that is HIPPA Compliant, and the implementation of our educational program that will help children with special needs know that it’s okay to speak up and to teach them and their families about body safety and abuse prevention.
