2020 has been a rough, heartbreaking, sometimes scary year for many of us. And at the same time, the resilience of humanity has been on full display. The resilience, the innovation and the ability to create a better world while ours has flipped on its head has been astounding and so inspiring to experience.
This year, MDR created virtual safe spaces for the commuity to come together to engage in heartfelt, vital, civil dialogues. We danced, shared poetry, provided experts on mental and emotional health for our constituents and shifted our peer mentor program from in-person to online, allowing us to reach communities on the other side of the country. We are funded by the community. Your donations supported this work! And we'd like to be a part of your End of Year Giving.
#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. We are launching our "End of 2020" Giving Campaign on #GivingTuesday, December 1, 2020 and continuing it throughouth the month of December. We invite you to join the movement by making your tax-deductible, one time or monthly donation to Media Done Responsibly.
Now, as a thank you, we are creating a virtual hub for those community investors who help support our media literacy, production and advocacy education programs with their financial donations. This is for YOU. This virtual safe space is called the MDR ArtHouse & Spoken Word Café and will gather artists, filmmakers, poets, songwriters, and everyday humans being human to a space where they are heard without judgement. It is in this space that we practice listening, that we gather, that we celebrate, that we learn.
Thank you for your tax-deductible donation.
The MDR ArtHouse & Café launches in January 2021. MDR's Virtual School, providing professional development training in media literacy, peer mentor workshops, and continuing education training, launches in February 2021. And March 2021 brings our inaugural MDR Virtual Film Festival and Awards Gala!
To our longtime donors, thank you for the support you've given throughout the years, and to our new donors, welcome to a vibrant community! We're happy to have you!
Media Done Responsibly is a media education charity that develops strategic partnerships with schools and media professionals to educate and empower the next generation of media creators and consumers.
MDR trains this incoming generation of media makers, producers, directors, journalists and content creators. When they complete training through MDR, they have clear, strategic tools to use their influence and power to disrupt the status quo of racism, misogyny, rape culture, cyber bullying, and the criminalization of Black and brown youth. In an environment where Muslims, immigrants, LGBTQ people, and communities of color are being victimized by an upsurge in hate crimes, safe spaces that expound the power and value of diverse human life are necessity.
Annually, over 300 college students in MDR’s partner universities synthesize data from scholarly research to create and lead hands-on, interactive media literacy workshops for 700 youth in over 30 middle and high schools across LA County. Youth have an opportunity to understand how they relate to the media they consume, as well as tell stories from their perspectives, shine light on issues like cyberbullying and lack of quality representation, and advocate for body positivity and inclusion. We have served over 15,000 young people and counting!
We look forward to you being a part of our community!
