Hard times spark community engagement—and sometimes can spark a movement. EnCourage Lancaster was born out of a need to advocate for Small Business in Lancaster.
We have helped start a Lancaster Small Business Emergency Fund and this gofundme is one component.
HELP US KEEP OUR FUNKY, COOL CITY INTACT
Sadly, COVID-19 could be an extinction-level event for many of the small businesses we love, if they don’t receive appropriate, quick assistance. Some businesses have lost 100% of their revenue because of the shutdown.
We care about Lancaster City and the many diverse, vibrant businesses that make our community exceptional, please stand with us as we protect our unique community!
What is the emergency fund, who will manage it, and how will the funds be distributed?
The Lancaster City Small Business Emergency Fund is a new fund composed of both grants and loans to provide emergency relief to small businesses struggling under the financial impact of COVID-19. The Emergency Fund is designed to help small and very small businesses within the City of Lancaster, PA and is a partnership between EnCourage Lancaster City, ASSETS and Community First Fund.
One piece of the Emergency Fund is this EnCourage Lancaster Crowdfunding Campaign! All money raised through this campaign will be disbursed as cash grants. The full Emergency Fund will be fully unveiled next week.
EnCourage Lancaster City Small Business Emergency Fund crowdfunding campaign asks locals and businesses alike to financially support the success of Lancaster’s small business community. Our crowdfunding campaign and advocacy for locally supported and distributed small business emergency relief grants was created over the past week by EnCourage Lancaster. EnCourage Lancaster is a new small business advocacy group made up of local small business owners in response to the urgent needs of the Lancaster City business community in the midst of the dramatic economic downturn sparked by the pandemic.
We’re committed to a simple, low-barrier process. There will be two applications—one for grants and one for loans. Both grants and loans will be available based upon size of business. All applications will be equitably considered based on the following characteristics: longevity in business, local economic and community impact of business, location of business in Lancaster City, impact on the streetscape of Lancaster City, and likelihood of survival if these funds are received.
The application will be open for approximately one week. This is NOT a first-come, first-serve fund.
Once the application closes, ASSETS and Community First Fund will consider all applications equally. Fund recipients will be chosen and then funds dispersed within a certain window of time. Stay connected via our social channels and/or check back often for updates.
The EnCourage Lancaster City Small Business Emergency Fund depends on contributions from all of us in the Lancaster community. Your tax-deductible donation will be pooled with funds from the business community, ASSETS and Community First Fund, and many other organizations. United together, we are committed to the long-term success of the City of Lancaster’s thriving business community.
ASSETS and Community First Fund—two Lancaster 501(c)(3) non-profits and CDFIs—will be managing and distributing funding in an equitable, timely, and structured manner. Details on the application (including terms, requirements, and distribution) are coming soon so stay connected for updates.
EnCourage Lancaster is an advocacy group of small businesses supporting small businesses. All funds raised through the April 2020 Encourage Lancaster crowdfunding campaign will be disbursed as cash grants through the Lancaster City Emergency Relief Fund.
