Our team in Lamu, Kenya met the 37 young girls living and learning at the Muadh Orphanage at a Recycling Exhibition we funded last September at the Fort. They were immediately impressed with these young ladies and wanted to learn more about their current living situation. After several site visits, our team sat down to discuss the best way forward. It was clear that these girls, ranging in age from 4 to 16, needed many of the basic necessities of life including proper mattresses, clean sheets, a change of clothing, hygiene materials, educational items, and more.
The Village Experience is committed to getting new mattresses for the orphanage as Step 1. We need your help, though, to accomplish Step 2. We are asking for people to commit to giving $20 in order to purchase each one of the girls their own metal locker, a set of new sheets, a hygiene kit (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste), hand towel, exercise book, and pen. This will allow for each of the girls to have their own personal items, help to keep the girls healthy, provide for better organization within the dormitories, and promote a better living and learning environment. If we can get 37 people to commit $20, we are done with Step 2.
We then hope to move on to providing several changes of clothing, sanitary pads, and proper textbooks to the girls as Step 3. This is one of those instances where a small amount can go so far...far enough to impact the lives of 37 much deserving girls. We hope you will continue your unending support of our projects around the world by donating $20 to this campaign :)
