Run to help us change the conversation about epilepsy and seizures in Northeast Ohio! The Empowering Epilepsy Team in the Akron Marathon benefits Empowering Epilepsy, our grassroots nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that was founded by people in Northeast Ohio who understand epilepsy and seizures first hand. We provide free or low cost programs, events, services, and support that focus on improving the mind, body, spirit, and lives of over 65,000 people living with epilepsy plus their families in Northeast Ohio.
People with epilepsy have a tendency to not talk about their seizures due to the centuries old stigma surrounding epilepsy. As a result, many of us live with epilepsy alone, with only a limited amount of resources available to people with epilepsy outside of our epileptologist's office (neurologist that specializes in epilepsy and seizures).
Exercise is a proactive way to help lessen seizures, so Empowering Epilepsy has teams in the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and the Akron Marathon. We also hold an annual Gunselman's Tavern Leprechaun Chase 5K in Fairview Park, Ohio in March.
Empowering Epilepsy's mission is to change that conversation by creating a caring community in Northeast Ohio, and showing people what they can do while living with seizures.
We hope you choose to help us change the conversation about epilepsy and seizures in Northeast Ohio. Thank you in advance for your support!
