This fall I'll be participating remotely in a race that will raise money for Team SINES. Since I moved away from Okinawa this summer, I won't be able to participate in the awesome on-island events that my friend Danielle set up -- but she also made virtual options where I'll do a triathlon on my own here in Florida! Even though what I'm doing won't be as cool as swimming across Kin Bay or trekking across the island, I'd really appreciate support in raising money for Team SINES.
Team SINES was created to celebrate the lives of Jeff, Haley, and Zoey Sines through community-building events that promote mental and physical health. Funds raised by Team SINES events will fund memorial scholarships and suicide prevention organizations throughout the United States. Danielle's vision is to have Team SINES established as an official non-profit organization by early 2019. Jeff, Haley, and Zoey Sines were killed in a murder-suicide in 2008 when Jeff lost his battle with depression. Jeff was a great dad and a hard worker who was fiercely proud to be an American and an Army veteran. Haley (10) loved animals, gymnastics and telling jokes. Zoey (5) was a wild child who looked up to her sister, Haley, and also had an affinity toward animals and gymnastics. Both girls wanted to be veterinarians.
