I'm running the Chicago Marathon this October to raise money for Bright Prink. Bright Pink is an organization that aims to educate young women about their risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer and also provide them with tips and tools to address that risk. Earlier this summer I found out that I have the BRCA1 gene mutation. This mutation gives me an 80% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of developing ovarian cancer in my lifetime. Because of this increased risk I'll begin yearly monitoring at 25 and have the option of having preventive surgeries to reduce my risk. All of these things can feel very overwhelming and scary to a 22 year old, so I decided to do the most logical thing and run 26.2 miles.
Please consider donating to my fundraiser so that other women like me can continue to access the amazing resoucres and support provided by Bright Pink!
