I freaking LOVE the Southern Maine Workers' Center. Gosh darn gosh darn. This group is a hub for local organizing where folks like you and me can get together to fight for what our communities need. In my time with the SMWC, I have met up with people on the frontlines of organizing for healthcare, housing, a resolution to the opioid epidemic, and more. It is a great community, and whenever I am there organizing, socializing, or attending an event, I am treated to a brief reprieve from dread! Another thing I love about the SMWC is that the organization centers the voices and leadership of the working class, putting we, the people most affected by these pressing issues, in the driver's seat of our own collective destiny.
I will be singing some karaoke during the SMWC fundraiser at the Apohadian Theater on Saturday, February 15th at 8pm. In order to expand DEMOCRACY, I will permit anyone who contributes to my fundraising campaign to VOTE on which of two songs I will sing. You heard that right: just like any real democracy, there are only TWO choices and you must PAY to play. Those who donate may choose between Eminem's "Lose Yourself" and Frank Sinatra's "My Way", two songs that I grew up singing with my dad in Korean karaoke spots. I have sung these two songs many times so I can promise a DAZZLING performance. May the best song win.
