Emily, now 17 years old, is a happy, interactive, loving ray of sunshine who loves Sesame Street, Dora, dancing, YouTube, and roller coasters. Her diagnoses include cerebral palsy, global developmental delays, a seizure disorder, scoliosis, and reflux. The Euro-Peds National Center for Intensive Pediatric PT has been life-changing, for Emily. Their intensive treatment, specialized equipment, and expertise have taken Emily from crawling, to walking in a gait trainer, to walking with a walker, to only needing a gait belt, and finally to independent walking. It's truly been miraculous. They continue to work with Emily on increasing strength and balance and fine-tuning all the complexities of safely and effectively moving her body through space. The physical changes from puberty brought increased challenges for Emily, with greater scoliosis and a new, more complex body for her to reign in and figure out. For Emily, every adaptation and new skill takes pain-staking, repetitive practice to learn and master.. The recent shift to remote learning and loss of all her school-based therapies , amidst the pandemic, has caused Emily to lose some hard-fought ground. It is my hope that this stint at Euro-Peds will help Emily get back on track and continue her march forward toward increased physical prowess and more independent functioning.
Any donations will go toward offseting the cost of Emily's current course of intensive PT at Euro-Peds. We have traveled to Michigan for a 3-week intensive PT program at Euro-Peds as well as speech/oral-motor therapy. Please consider donating and sharing this link so we can raise money for the Euro-Peds treatment and hotel costs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
