Since 2010, the Emilio del Rosario Music Foundation (“EDR”) has sponsored piano concerto competitions in the Chicago area that provide exceptional young talent the essential performance opportunities they need to excel as professional musicians. Two Competitions alternate annually: the General Competition (which focuses on contestants thru age 20), and the International Young Artist Competition (which draws global collegiate competitors). The Final Round of each Competition features finalists playing with a professional orchestra.
Serious performance opportunities are vital to pre-professional development: the concerto genre is an essential component for all soloists, particularly pianists. Winners of such intense competition gain the experience and power to define themselves as young artists, and EDR offers opportunities to hone their performance skills. Past winners of the EDR Competitions have ascended to take prizes in subsequent international contests, including the Gina Bachauer and the New York International.
Named after Chicago’s revered piano teacher, Emilio del Rosario, the Foundation has gained a reputation for excellence in Chicago circles. The contestants’ energy and commitment literally feeds the soul of music lovers, and winners inspire music students everywhere who are just beginning their studies.
