As a trans person, my relationship with my body has always been frayed. Transitioning has gone a long way towards improving that relationship, but with physical transition came different difficulties feeling at home in my body. The cycle of powerlifting, pushing my body as far as possible then taking deliberate time to heal and recover, has been essential to finally feeling at home in my body. Unfortunately, because of the time we live in, and because I'm a transwoman, I cannot compete at virtually any level in the sport that has meant so much to me.
Pull for Pride is a deadlift party thrown to support local LGBT+ charities and the inclusion of trans people in strength sports. So, if you'd like to support Kaleidoscope Youth Center and their mission to help LGBTQIA+ youth find a place of belonging in Columbus (and also my absurd, self-imposed goal of a 315lb deadlift by June) please consider donating!
