Here at House of the Roses, our goal has always been one thing: to spread joy through dance and movement. For the past 15 years, HOTR's Teaching Artists have been providing free dance and movement workshops to children and youth in NYC homeless shelters and community centers.
Since 2005, we have come together at the end of every season to celebrate the success and creativity of every student in a professionally-produced theater performance. It is with broken hearts that we announce that we are canceling our Spring performance. For the first time in 15 years, we cannot come together as a community to celebrate one another. So we are coming together in another way.
As you can imagine, the HOTR families have been hit particularly hard by this crisis. Many of our children’s parents have either been laid off or face uncertainty as to when they’ll see another paycheck. Many of our children have single parents, now faced with the impossible choice of going to work to put food on the table or staying at home with their children with NYC schools closed and childcare inaccessible to them. This Spring, in lieu of fundraising for our annual concert, House of the Roses is dedicating our fundraising efforts to go directly to the families of HOTR kids who are most in need.
So, on Friday, April 3rd we’re hosting an online day of giving and invite you to #showyourlove for HOTR kids and their families with a donation of any size. 100% of your contribution will go directly to HOTR’s partner organizations who continue to serve HOTR children and their families every day.
We may not be able to be a community in the way that we always have been, but our mission remains the same as it always was: “doing the ordinary with extraordinary love.”
