We have been partnered with Vamos Adelante in Guatemala since 2007. The communities in Esquintla province affected by the eruption of Volcano Fuego today are near and dear to our hearts. They are our friends, our family, our teachers, our community workers, and so much more. Two villages in particular were hit extremely hard...to the point that they were essentially buried under volcanic ash and lava. Our team is on the ground and working hard to make a difference. More than 25 deaths have been reported and over 3,000 people displaced.
We are reaching out now to ask for your help in supporting families in El Rodeo and San Migual Los Lotes. The current needs include emergency food relief, cooking supplies, beds, tables, chairs, blankets, flashlights, batteries, shoes, and basic hygiene items. In order to clear the ash, cleaning supplies, mops, soaps, buckets, and face masks are needed. And as soon as the immediate disaster is over, these families will need to start rebuilding their homes and their lives. Construction supplies will be incredibly important - tin sheets for roofs, nails, wire, wood, shovels, bags of cement, and more.
We appeal to you now to help us in this recovery effort and to put the beautiful people of Guatemala in your thoughts and prayers today. Many of the photos on this campaign are from our partner school in El Rodeo.
