Emerald Media Group has been delivering newspapers using cargo bikes since 2009, even in the snow! We also use the bikes to move our newspaper boxes. These bikes were custom built and cost $3,000 each. That expense was recouped in our first year due to no longer paying students by the mile to use their cars.
Both our cargo bikes were stolen during the campus shutdown in the spring of 2020. Fortunately, some awesome detective work on the part of our delivery manager resulted in the recovery of both bikes. Unfortunately, the bikes were severely damaged as the thieves attempted to disassemble them and with many components missing, our bikes are no longer equipped to carry a heavy load, or to stop safely.
Our goal is to raise $2,500 to repair these bikes by the end of August in order to be ready for fall term deliveries. No donation is too small and anything will help, including simply spreading the word.
