303,000 women die around the world as a result of complications of pregnancy and childbirth, every year. THAT’S 1 WOMAN EVERY 2 MINUTES. Sadly, the United States is the only industrialized nation with a consistently rising maternal mortality rate despite spending more per capita on health care than any other country.
Every Mother Counts is a non-profit dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother by raising money for transportation, education, and supplies. As a new Mama to two beautiful babes, Hank & Nora, I feel very blessed and grateful to have access and be provided with excellent healthcare during both of my pregnancies, labor and delivery, and post-partum care. EMC works to address three main barriers to maternal care: lack of transportation, lack of education/training, & lack of essential medicines and supplies.
I'm running for team EMC in the Mill Creek Distance Classic on March 24, 2019. This will be my FIRST half-marathon & I'm so excited to run & help raise awwareness & donations for such an important cause that hits so close to home.
Since 2011, the EMC running program has helped raise over $2.2 million and since 2012, Every Mother Counts has provided over $3 million in grants and have directly and impacted over 540,000 lives. (89 cents of every dollar raised is invested into programs that support EMC's mission to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.) Every donation helps -- $5 is enough to provide transportation to a safe birth facility for a pregnant woman in Uganda so she doesn't have to walk. Please take a moment and consider donating to this awesome cause to help mamas around the world (including YOUNGSTOWN mamas!) access essential maternal care. No mother should be without it! A major HEARTFELT thank you xo- Jess
