Thank you for taking the time to read this post. My name is Joanna Rochelle and I am organizing this campaign to raise awareness and donations to fight osteosarcoma. My mom, Therese, would have turned 57 years old today. My immediate instinct is to express the sadness and immense pain this journey has caused her and my family, but instead I will start with a prayer from my mom. “We have a purpose. The storm is not going to get in. The storm is not going to destroy us. Lord, we may come in on a piece of the boat, we may not be in the whole boat, the storm may have destroyed the boat, but we won’t be destroyed…because You are with us. You are not going to let us go until we meet You and we’ll be safe in Your arms then.” My mom went through countless physical, emotional, and spiritual battles through her storm. But she held on tight to God and found her purpose in her storm. She embraced love in all of its precious forms and poured out her soul/wisdom using her story. Therese made her mark on every single person she encountered. And she FOUGHT…boy, was she a fighter and a true advocate for herself… And I want to hold onto anger, so so badly, but when I reflect on my mom…I know she would never want the pain of her passing or the pains in this world to debilitate us. She would want this pain to be redirected to a higher purpose…maybe to initiate a difficult conversation with someone you love, to reach out to someone you can’t stop thinking about, to love your neighbor, to change your perspective because we have the willpower to do so! How am I choosing to honor my mom today? I am asking for your help to fight cancer. 1 + 1 will always equal more than what we can accomplish alone. The donations received throughout this campaign will be utilized by the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA), which funds sarcoma research for a cure, advocacy, education, and awareness. We have to start somewhere when we are shaken up by the experiences in life that are unbearably unfair. And cancer is that; it takes away the lives of our loved ones every single day. If you are unable to donate, there are many other avenues to make a difference, such as: donating hair, blood, unused airline points/miles, or start a campaign of your own. Ultimately, I would love to hear a memory/story you have of Therese that has helped you through your storm(s). January 13th is a day of celebration for someone who is loved by so many. Happy Birthday, Mom! I miss you every day.
