What can we do to support our TESOL colleagues in Puerto Rico?
As teachers, we can be examples of global citizenship. When two massive earthquakes hit Puerto Rico on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, a group of ELT professionals from different teacher associations in Latin America and the Caribbean decided to respond to the disaster by joining forces to support our TESOL colleagues in Puerto Rico.
We are hosting an event called ELT Day for Puerto Rico - a 24-hour on-line teaching conference - to raise awareness to the needs of our fellow global citizens and raise funds to the Red Cross Organization in Puerto Rico. Educators from all over Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world will donate their time to provide high quality, innovative, dynamic workshops for teachers.
The beautiful Caribbean island has been in a slow recovery process after Hurricane Maria severely hit it in September 2017 leaving the country under emotional and mental stress, as well as with severe damage to infrastructure.
