After a phone call with an ELM mom, distressed with the loss of her house cleaning income and inability to purchase the nutrition supplements for her daughter with chronic health problems, ELM has decided to create an emergency fund for our community. Any amount that you can share with this fund will go directly to our families who need additional cash for groceries, health related expenses and rent support.
While the challenges of COVID-19 present difficulties for us all, we are not all equally impacted. Our ELM community is disproportionately impacted as many live in apartments with non-relatives as housemates or with elderly relatives whom they cannot protect adequately. Some have to make the difficult choice between economic survival and physical welfare by delivering food and groceries and assuming other risky work. Sheltering in place is not an easy option for them.
This is a community for whom a missed paycheck may lead to missed meals or loss of home.
We are continuing to bring music into the lives and homes of our ELM students during this trying time with Skype lessons, Zoom classes, and specialized videos for each instrument classes. Please help us lessen the burden of the very real and immediate health, mental health, and economic fallout from this pandemic for our ELM community. Any amount will go a long way.
From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!
Jane and the ELM Board
