Hello! Welcome to the fundraising page for my mitzvah project! At my temple, every student having a bar/bat mitzvah does a mitzvah project as a way to give back to the community. I have chosen to raise money and awareness for The Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation (JMBHF). In 2013, Joseph Middlemiss passed away at the age of 6 years old, due to complications from his diagnosis of cardiomyopathy. As a way to honor Joseph’s memory, his parents created The Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation to “carry on Joseph’s legacy of love by spreading kindness, empowering children, supporting cardiac patients and families and funding pediatric cardiomyopathy research.” The Middlemiss family also has another son named Jack, who has cardiomyopathy like his brother, and a daughter named Grace. Jack received a heart transplant in February 2018 and is now recovering well at home!
This foundation means a lot to me because Mr. Middlemiss was my assistant principal when I was at the Abbot School in Westford. When I was there, Mrs. Middlemiss spoke at a school assembly about their foundation and how we should all try to “make a ripple of kindness.” My mom and I have run some races for the JMBHF team, “Team Big Heart.”
As you may know, I have my own cookie business called “Doodlebug’s Delights.” Over the next year, I will be baking and selling “heart-shaped” cookies and will donate all of the money to the Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation. I will sell one dozen cookies for $10 or two dozen for $18 to the first 10 people that respond to this post. Be on the look out for posts like this throughout the year! I will also take special requests for cookies. In the past, I have made cookies in the shapes of footballs, hearts, shamrocks, hockey sticks and mah jong tiles!
The money raised through my Mitzvah Project will be used to plan parties on the cardiac floor of Children’s Hospital in Boston.
Thank you for your suppport!
