I talk about mental health in my streams a lot.
TELL is a suicide prevention hotline operating in English for people living in Japan.
I myself have tried to call them 3 times in my time living here.
However they're not funded as well as they could be.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to use their services.
It's really important to me and others in living in Japan that TELL can receive funding to operate in way that will save more lives. This means 24hr, 7 day a week lifeline support. It might sound silly that a lifeline isn't 24/7, but that's why it's so important to help raise these funds!
So I'm hoping we can raise some funds to really help contribute!
From 7:30am on Sunday 8th September (11:30 PM PST) we'll be participating in the TELL Tokyo Tower Climb Time Challenge to raise awareness and funds for TELL.
And of course it wasn't clear - we'll be streaming! So hope I will see you there with some generous support!
Where will your money go?
TELL, an accredited not-for-profit organization (NPO) with a 46‐year history to the international and Japanese community in Japan, operates a telephone Lifeline, as well as confidential mental health support and counseling services. TELL Lifeline received approximately 9,000 calls/chat last year from all over Japan, of which roughly 60 percent come from Japanese citizens and 40 percent from Japan-resident foreigners.
TELL are aiming to take their Lifeline service 24 hours 7 days a week and extend our hours of crisis chat support. Your fundraising support will be used to help train phone counsellors, launch and grow our online chat service and expand our volunteer base and support services to people all over Japan.
Together We Can Do Something Bigger. Together We Can Save Lives!
September 8th 2019 marks the 17th World Suicide Prevention Day. On this day all around the world, people will be walking, marching or running for World Suicide Prevention Day. The theme again this year is “Working Together to Prevent Suicide”
In Japan, more than 20,000 people die by suicide a year – this is around 54 people a day, and increasingly these are young people.
Come out and make a difference fundraising to take the TELL Lifeline 24 hours and extend our hours of chat operation. At the same time you can tick climbing Tokyo Tower off your bucket list!
Come take the challenge. Every step you take changes lives.
